„Naše kavárna“ (“Our Coffee Shop”)  was not built to be just a pleasant place to meet with friends and enjoy superb coffee and delicious snacks. This café, which is a project of the civic association Lékořice, was meant to be a social project in the first place as it creates unparalleled job opportunities for parents and close relatives of seriously ill patients and patients undergoing long-term hospitalization. The idea of this project came from mothers whose children were hospitalized in an intensive care unit of Fakultní Thomayerova nemocnice Krč, Prague. They decided to stay close to their ill children and take intensive care of them despite the price they would have to pay, i.e. loose their job. There were no other employment alternatives for them as no institution addressed the problems of this specific group. And so Lékořice offered help and spent three years working hard together with the mothers before this unique project was successfully completed. The Thomayerova hospital showed support to the project by providing part of the building close to the main entrance to the hospital complex. Necessary renovations in the building were held with reference to the famous era of Thirties when the complex was built as a social institution and named „Masarykovy domovy“ after the first president. Our coffee shop pays tribute to this era by offering high quality drinks and snacks. Coffee served here meets the highest standards of coffee culture and suppliers of sweets and snacks are chosen with utmost care.
